5 Activities for dogs to tire them out

Let’s tire out that puppy!

Have you got one (or more) very excitable pooches at home? After a long day of napping while you’re at work, are they just beaming with energy?

Every dog has different levels of energy. For those who need to burn calories like a world class Olympian, here’s a list of 5 great activities for dogs to satisfy their needs:

Running

Speedy pups love to go for a good run, so track down a nice trail in your neighbourhood and take them out. I prefer to use my Smoochy Poochey hands free leash that allows me to buckle the dogs around my waist and keep my hands free. You can’t find them at PetsMart, but you can at Ren’s Pet Depot and smaller pet stores. We also use a leash splitter to keep the two dogs from veering too far away from one another.

Biking

Another great activity for you and your dogs- and a little less tiring for you than running!

Skateboarding/ Long boarding

If you’re in an area with more pavement than greenery, boarding is a great way to get their energy out. Just make sure to be careful of pedestrians and cars.

Playing fetch

Especially for those retrieving breeds, fetch is a great way to get your pup some exercise. I know some dogs that could do this forever, so grab a Chuck it and make your way to the park. Beware of other dogs stealing the ball though- you may have to do some retrieving yourself!

Agility games

Agility is a really fun way to get mental and physical energy out for your pup. You can set up a course in your backyard or your local park.

There are tons of great videos online with different ideas for agility training that you can try.

Remember to be patient with your pup and use positive reinforcement- they’ll pick it up in no time!
