Dog-friendly park feature: Woodbine Beach

Welcome to Woodbine Beach!

Woodbine beach is one of my favourite places to bring the dogs. This dog-friendly park runs a long distance with vast green space and a gorgeous beach. You can walk along the beach or the boardwalk in the summer and admire the lovely trees and sandy beach. In the winter, the beach is blanketed in snow and much less busy. Whenever you choose to go, I certainly recommend it!

If you’re looking for a place to start your walk, I recommend heading to the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant. There’s actually a lot of green space around the building, where you can take your dog to roam around. Right near the plant is where the beach starts and many dog owners let their dogs off-leash here before the board walk starts. A word of warning, this area is not fenced in, so please make sure your pup has good recall!

As you make your way west, you’ll reach the boardwalk: one of three main paths along the beach. The other two paths are the paved trail and at the water’s edge. These paths make for a great way to try out some fun activites to tire out your pup!

You can head to the beach for a game of fetch by the water, take your pup for a bike ride down the paved trail or go for a stroll along the boardwalk.

Wintertime only opens up a new set of possible activities. I’ve seen people cross county skiing with their dogs down the beach in the middle of February. Now that sounds like fun!

Almost halfway down the boardwalk, you can spot the fenced-in dog park. It’s a rather unique park because it’s not fully enclosed, with one border running along the water. There are many trees and shrubs for the dogs to explore and lots of space to romp around in. This is another great park to play fetch in or any agility games. The space is divided in two, with one smaller gated area and one larger area.

Bonus: there’s an ice cream parlour across the street where you can get yourself a treat.

Once you’ve left the dog park, I can guarantee your pup will be pooped for the day. If by chance they’re still full of energy, there’s a lot more distance left to cover by foot. You can also take a break by having a seat on one of the many benches and chairs all along the board walk and paved trail.

“A breath of fresh air”

I think the best part of the beaches is the general sense of relaxation. Many have described this area of Toronto as, “a breath of fresh air”. This is part of why Woodbine beach makes for a dog-friendly park to visit. The lack of commotion and general ease is something that surely brings a calmness to the dogs and fosters a welcoming environment for them.
